STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado — Steamboat Ski Area kicks off a summer filled with fun and adventure Friday, June 10, 2005, with a variety of mountain activities, plus music, mountain biking, hiking and events hot enough to make the summer sizzle. The resort will open June 10-12, and then switch to daily operations from June 18 – August 28. The resort will be open for Labor Day Weekend, September 2 – 5, then weekends only through September 18.

"Steamboat's exciting slate of summer activities, from mountain biking and hiking in beautiful scenery, to specialty dinners and nationally recognized concert acts shows our continued commitment as a year-round family resort destination,” said Andy Wirth, Vice President of Sales & Marketing.

While favorite family activities and performance events for athletes have returned, the resort is pleased to announce that it has added several new programs and activities to further enhance the existing lineup:

Hazie's Martini Bar: Enjoy a breathtaking sunset with views of the Yampa Valley from above while sipping your favorite cocktail/martini with scrumptious appetizers. Offered Saturdays this summer starting at 7 p.m. on June 18.

Shoot 'n Shower: Compete to stay dry at Gondola Square Adventure Zone's newest attraction. Players compete 1-on-1 or 2-on-2, shooting as many baskets as they can before time runs out. Losers win a soaking shower.

Concert Lineup: Groove to the sounds of big time Colorado favorite Big Head Todd & The Monsters, who will play a FREE concert at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area on July 14, as part of the Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series. Innovative alternative band Cracker rounds out the series at the ski area with a FREE concert at the resort on September 3.

Cooking Class at Hazie's: Learn how to prepare delicious creations at 9,000 feet. Each session will include wine matching with hands-on participation by one of our extraordinary chefs. The group will enjoy the fabulous preparations after the lesson.

Friday, June 17: Asian Cooking Techniques
Friday, July 22: French Cooking Basics
Friday, Sept. 9: Bavarian Cooking

Also new at Hazie's: Lunch Wine Seminars, August 5–6, and an International Four Course Beer Dinner, held September 17.

So many invigorating adventures, and only the summer to accomplish them all. Returning for the second year are The Rio 24-Hours of Steamboat Mountain Bike Race on June 11-12 and the Mountain Chili Festival at the base of the mountain on July 30. The 4th Annual Art on the Mountain runs select weekends July through September. The 3rd Annual Beaux Arts Festival & Art Car Stampede returns August 4-14, presented by the Steamboat Springs Arts Council. Sniff, swirl and sip through Steamboat at the 2nd Annual Steamboat Wine Festival, held August 5-7.

Join in celebrating Steamboat's genuine western heritage at the Wild West Air Fest Labor Day Celebration, held September 3-4. The event features hot air balloons, hang gliders, remote controlled aircraft and a free outdoor concert. To commemorate their 100-year anniversary, western mercantile store F.M. Light & Sons is sponsoring the Great American Wild West Show, which features daredevil horseback riders, Native American dancers and western legends over Labor Day Weekend. Join F.M. Lights on July 23 for a birthday celebration in downtown Steamboat Springs - come toast 100 great years with horseshoe contests, games and a 100-foot birthday cake.

Between exciting events and activities, explore all the mountain has to offer in the summer. Rent a mountain bike or Diggler at Ride Sports and enjoy a vertical descent over 3,000 feet. Try a hand at Giggle Gulch mini-golf or take off in the slingshot bungee jump at Gondola Square Adventure Zone. Ride the Gondola to a scenic Guided Gourmet Hike, with lunch and wine included. Cool off at the Oasis Sundeck at Thunderhead with a Caribbean cocktail. Hungry? Sunday Brunch returns starting at 9a.m. Hazie's is open for lunch Fridays and Saturdays starting June 24, and features International Saturday Evening Dinners June 18-August 27.
